Months of broken promises trying to get a refund from ***, ***
Months of chasing a refund. Different contacts, repeated assurances, then radio silence for weeks at a time. I didn’t got my money back till now.If you are an expat or international founder considering Innovation City, a RAK free zone, or a UAE crypto licence in general, then think twice before you make any payments.
They reviewed it, approved it, and I paid the registration fees.
Shortly after, through my own independent legal research, I discovered that my intended business activities involving a smart contract protocol now require licensing from the Central Bank of the UAE. Federal Decree-Law No. 6 of 2025 expanded the CBUAE regulatory perimeter significantly. Innovation City, a free zone that markets itself as a hub for crypto and blockchain companies in RAK, did not flag any of this during their review.
I notified them immediately and requested cancellation in March 2026.
My application was still under review no company was ever registered, no crypto licence was ever issued.
Since then, I have dealt with four different team members. Each one promised to resolve the matter, then stopped responding for weeks.
